Mac Basics

Mac 1 – Basics

This is the first class in a series of four for people who are self-taught, rusty, or unfamiliar with Apple’s operating systems. We will cover how to start up the computer, how to manipulate windows, and discuss some of the applications included with the computer. We’ll briefly see how information is organized on a computer, and how to access the Internet. (While the Club has a few Macs, please bring your own Mac laptop if you have one.)

Platform: Mac.

Mac 2 – System Preferences

From Apple: “Besides changing the look and feel of your Mac, you can also let your Mac know how you prefer to work by using System Preferences. System Preferences controls system-wide settings (“global” settings), and … lets you adjust things like your screen resolution, keyboard control, mouse control, sound, printer settings, sharing settings, accounts, and more.” (While the Club has a few Macs, please bring your own Mac laptop if you have one.)

Platform: Mac.

Mac 3 – Safari

Learn the ins and outs of your Mac Internet browser. Besides the basics, we’ll cover downloads, bookmarks, your history file, and more. (While the Club has a few Macs, please bring your own Mac laptop if you have one.)

Platform: Mac.

Mac 4 – Finder and Dock

One of the major causes of computer users’ frustration is a lack of experience and/or understanding of how a computer stores things. This is true for documents, pictures, apps, music, etc. In this class you’ll learn how files are stored, accessed, and manipulated in macOS using Finder. We will cover several methods to accomplish the basic tasks of folder creation, copy, move, delete, paste, cut, search, multiple select, etc. (There should be ample time for practice.)

Platform: Mac.
